Trapp Family Today - That’s how the protagonists live ...
The fate of the Trapp family is inseparably connected with Salzburg; even as the family -- after its escape to the USA – never returned to the Salzach River.
After the father’s death in 1947, the siblings did not feel a pull to return back home to Austria; the memories of the Nazi period were simply too painful. Mother Maria Augusta died in 1987, at the age of 82, in Vermont.
Six of the ten Trapp children are to this very day alive. Among them is Maria von Trapp, the third child of Maria and the baron. The today 94 year old was active for 20 years as a missionary in Papua New Guinea, and today she inhabits once again the family estate in Vermont, which half-brother Johannes also operates as a hotel.
The Trapp family includes 25 grandchildren and 40 great-grandchildren. A majority of the family members are at home in the USA. Although the famous family choir has been officially dissolved since 1956, this very day four grandchildren keep the memory of their grandparents’ worldwide success alive as “Trapp Family Singers”.
